The Northwest Maritime Center is a respected sailing school committed to providing top-quality sailing education to enthusiasts of all levels. We are currently seeking a qualified and passionate Adult Sailing Instructor to join our team and inspire students to develop their sailing skills in a safe and enjoyable environment. As the Adult Sailing Instructor, you'll be guiding classes on our Cal 20 and Catalina 250 keelboats. Each student wraps up the experience with a US Sailing membership, a logbook, and a Basic Keelboat Certification. We keep it intimate, with only up to 4 students on board each class.
What makes a great team member for us? Someone who can navigate the dynamic environment of teaching sail to novices, all while keeping a calm demeanor. You will need to genuinely understand and address the needs of our adult students through clear and effective communication. So, if you're into the idea of spending your summer on the waters of the Salish Sea, sharing your love for sailing, and creating lasting memories, we'd love to have you on deck. Let's sail into summer together!
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach daily lesson plans in keeping with the class content as presented in the program description and under the guidance of the Waterfront Programs Manager

Ensure and maintain an emotionally and physically safe, fun, and educational environment for all participants
Facilitating a shoreside program in inclement weather
Participation in the Staff Training (date to be determined), pre-season set up, and postseason tear down of the program
Other related duties as assigned by the Waterfront Programs Manager
GENERAL OPERATIONS
While this position’s primary responsibility is in sailing instruction, the Adult Sailing Instructor will work as part of the NWMC team to ensure smooth operations for the organization as a whole. This could include providing information to visitors to the Maritime Center and helping out in projects and events that require all-hands-on-deck, to helping tie up a vessel coming into our dock because you happen to be standing there. We all pitch in for the heavy lifting now and then—sometimes this is metaphoric; occasionally we all have to actually help lift something heavy.
