About The Opportunity
As an Engineering Intern at JGMS, you will have the
opportunity to work on a unique independent project either of your own design
or provided by the company. Over the course of the internship, you will develop
a product design and apply basic engineering judgment to the functional and
organizational requirements of the assigned project. This position will also
provide basic assistance in support of day-to-day business operations and
requires a strong working knowledge of engineering and project management principles.
Work is monitored or
reviewed prior to completion.
Engineering
work will take place on site at the JGMS Corporate Office in Grand Junction,
CO. Work will be supervised

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct
research and analysis to identify project requirements and goals.
- Develop
and design engineering solutions based on project specifications.
- Collaborate
with team members for feedback and guidance while maintaining ownership of
the independent project.
- Assist
with input to support requests for new projects and data to support
technical documents for accuracy.
- Present
project updates and results to stakeholders.
- Gain
an understanding of the vast variety of engineering job opportunities to
pursue outside of college.
- Gain
an understanding of contracting and business operations.
- Perform
other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated
use of logic and reasoning to identify alternate solutions, conclusions or
approaches to problems.
- Ability
to work independently and proactively complete assignments.
- Strong
ability to complete basic tasks with an elevated level of accuracy,
efficiency and thoroughness.
- Strong
proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard industry systems and
software, including CAD.
- Time
management and organizational skills including prioritization of tasks
under strict deadlines and the ability to manage multiple projects at the
same time.
- Willingness
to travel out of state to work location.
Education
Students must complete sophomore standing or above by May
2025 and be actively working towards a bachelor’s degree in engineering or
related STEM field with at least one project-based class is preferred.

NextGen STEM Fellowship Inc. (NextGen) is an IRS approved 501(c)3 charitable institution focused on supporting underserved/underrepresented students as they complete undergraduate degrees in their chosen science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. The US Government and its federal contracting community have identified a need for diversity in the STEM workforce. To that end, NextGen has partnered with private industry to make a limited number of internships available in the summer after sophomore and junior year and to underwrite specific costs associated with participation.
