The newly renovated Welcome Center at Northwest Maritime serves as our inviting front door, welcoming both visitors and locals. With engaging exhibits and retail offerings, our customer-focused staff is dedicated to creating a warm and informative experience for everyone, including program participants and the general public. This summer, join our dedicated team as a Visitor Experience Associate, where you will play a key role in providing exceptional customer service and ensuring a memorable visit for all.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Guests, Customers, and Community:

  • Provide customer service for all NWM visitors including program participants, tourists, and locals

  • Assist visitors in person, over the phone, and via email with their retail and registration needs, as well as general inquiries

  • Maintain thorough understanding and awareness of the organization’s activities, the local community, and the maritime sector

  • Answer questions and provide information to visitors regarding our rich maritime history


Northwest Maritime Retail:

  • Assist with receiving, tagging, and stocking merchandise

  • Greet & assist guests with retail purchases

  • Support the organization during large events, including Wooden Boat Festival and Race to Alaska

  • Effectively navigate Point of Sale software and other technology as needed

  • Other duties as assigned



GENERAL OPERATIONS

While the primary focus of this position is creating a welcoming environment for our visitors, the Visitor Experience Associate works as part of the entire NWM team, ensuring smooth operations. As a growing non-profit, we all pitch in for the heavy lifting, whether it's participating in all-hands projects and events, assisting visitors, or occasionally doing some literal heavy lifting.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Responsible, detail-oriented, proactive, and can represent NWM in a friendly and enthusiastic manner

  • Strong customer service skills 

  • Available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays

  • Comfortable learning new technology and navigating between different software


HELPFUL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in a museum or retail setting

  • Cash handling skills

WORK LOCATION & SCHEDULE

  • Position will require onsite work at NWM's main office located at 431 Water St., Port Townsend, WA 98368

  • Position is seasonal part-time, 20-25 hours/week, from June through September, with the potential for additional hours as needed for coverage

  • Reports to: Visitor Experience Supervisor


WAGE RANGE & BENEFITS

  • $18.50-20.50 per hour, non-exempt 

  • Paid time off: sick time is accrued at 1 hour for every 25 hours worked
