SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer
and reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Accounting is
responsible for the accounting and financial functions of the Corporation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
- Responsible
for the coordination and control of all financial and accounting activities of
the Corporation.
- Responsible
for the preparation, accuracy, and maintenance of the corporate budgets.
- Analyze, monitor,
and report revenue and expenditures.
- Responsible
for the maintenance of accounting records and control of expenditures in
accordance with approved budgets.
- Responsible
for the management of cash flow forecasts, investment strategies for the
Corporation and the preparation of reports outlining the Corporation’s
financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings.
- Ensure corporate
compliance with tax entities.
- Advise
administration, faculty and staff on matters pertaining to budgeting and
expenditure of funds.
- Oversees
banking relations.
- Supervises the
staff of the accounting and revenue cycle departments.
- Responsible
for writing, maintaining, and interpreting financial procedure manual.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly manages staff of the accounting and revenue cycle department. Carries
out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work;
appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints
and resolving problems
EDUCATION AND/OR
EXPERIENCE: A
bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field with an emphasis in
accounting. C.P.A. and/or MBA or MHA highly desired. Must have three years experience in
supervision of an accounting/ financial function preferably in the medical
field. Experience with transitioning to new practice management, medical record
and human resource electronic platforms.
OTHER SKILLS AND
ABILITIES: General knowledge of
medical billing and collections, ICD-10, and CPT
coding, medical terminology, and computer software applications. Knowledge of the principles and practices of
supervisory and general management abilities of a medical practice. Knowledge of departmental functions and
organization for medical practice. Skill
in composition, compiling, and preparing a variety of correspondence, reports,
and other materials. Develop and
maintain smooth and constructive relationships with executive colleagues within
the University, Veteran’s Administration, and medical community as well as
outside agencies, organizations, and individuals. Ability to handle detailed, complex concepts
and problems and make rapid decisions regarding issues. Convey a professional and positive image and
attitude. Demonstrate commitment to
continued professional growth and development.
Ability to concentrate under high demands and listen effectively. Ability to organize tasks, work as a team
member and independently use sound management skills with a variety of
professional disciplines.
