POSITION SUMMARY: 

The RV Park Host is a volunteer role that provides on‑site guest service and operational support at the Port of Newport’s South Beach RV Park. The Host assists campers, monitors park activity, supports rule compliance and safety expectations, and helps maintain a clean and welcoming environment. The position serves as a representative of the Port and contributes directly to the overall visitor experience.

TERM LENGTH & TIME COMMITMENT

  • Typical volunteer term is 1 year, based on operational needs.
  • Extensions may be considered depending on performance and availability.
  • Expected time commitment is 20–25 hours per week; couples may share hours.
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday availability is required.
  • All time away must be coordinated and approved by the Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Guest Services

  • Greet and assist campers and visitors in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Provide information about RV park amenities, Port facilities, and local area attractions.
  • Remain accessible to guests for questions, comments, and concerns.
  • Assist campers and staff during emergencies in accordance with training and procedures.

Park Compliance & Safety

  • Understand and follow the Port of Newport Facilities Code, Ordinances, and RV Park Rules.
  • Help ensure guests have access to all park rules and regulatory information.
  • Report rule violations or concerning behavior to Security or the Supervisor.
  • Conduct daily check‑out sweeps and nightly RV checks in the Main Park, Annex, Dry Camp, and Dry Camp Overflow.

Operational Support

  • After business hours, on weekends, and when security is absent, ensure campers occupying sites are properly registered and checked in.
  • Report maintenance issues or safety concerns to the Supervisor or Office Staff.
  • Place “Reserved” markers in designated campsites as assigned.
  • Maintain a visible Port‑provided sign identifying the host site and post contact information as directed.
  • Perform other light operational duties assigned to maintain efficient RV park operations.

Facility Appearance

  • Clean litter and animal waste from RV park areas and campsites after guest departure.
  • Report issues affecting appearance, cleanliness, or functionality of the RV park.

TRAINING & SUPPORT PROVIDED

Hosts receive:

  • Orientation to Port rules, procedures, and RV park operations
  • Emergency response guidance appropriate to the park environment
  • Direction on daily duties, expectations, and reporting processes
  • Ongoing support from the Supervisor and Port Staff
  • Access to maps, informational handouts, and available communication tools

RV SITE AMENITIES PROVIDED

The host RV site includes:

  • Full hookups (water, sewer, electricity)
  • Wi‑Fi access
  • Access to onsite bathrooms and laundry facilities
  • Parking for one RV and up to two vehicles (subject to Port policy)

TOOLS, EQUIPMENT & UNIFORMS PROVIDED

The Port may provide:

  • Radios or communication equipment
  • Safety vests or related gear
  • Informational packets, maps, and handouts
  • Reserved markers and official host signage

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Professional and customer‑service‑oriented demeanor
  • Ability to interpret and communicate rules clearly and respectfully
  • Good judgment and situational awareness
  • Ability to remain calm and helpful during emergencies
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Reliability in completing assigned duties and maintaining schedule commitments

Availability Requirements

  • Must be available on weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • All time away must be coordinated in advance with the Supervisor

Other Requirements

  • Must reside in the provided full‑hookup RV site throughout volunteer service
  • Must conduct oneself in a manner consistent with Port expectations and public‑facing roles

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience as an RV park or campground host
  • Background in customer service, hospitality, recreation, or public service
  • Familiarity with RV equipment and campground etiquette
  • Basic maintenance awareness
  • Experience traveling or living in an RV
  • Knowledge of Newport and/or the Central Oregon Coast

BACKGROUND CHECK

Final candidate selection may be subject to background checks consistent with Port policy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to walk throughout the RV park multiple times daily
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and reach to perform cleaning or inspection tasks
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied and sometimes inclement weather

RV REQUIREMENTS

  • RV must be in good working condition and presentable
  • Maximum RV length may apply depending on host site configuration

PET POLICY

Personal pets are allowed at the host site consistent with Port and RV park pet rules.

CODE OF CONDUCT

Hosts must maintain a professional, respectful, and courteous demeanor at all times and represent the Port in accordance with established policies, values, and visitor service standards.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work occurs primarily outdoors in varied weather conditions. Duties require significant walking, light cleanup tasks, and frequent interaction with the public. Evening and weekend rounds are required.
