Food Pantry Support Specialist

The Food Pantry Support Specialist supports daily operations of the food pantry, ensuring donations are safely received, stored, organized, and distributed, including some evening and weekend hours to meet community needs. This role involves physical work, equipment operation, volunteer support, occasional driving, and maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities

Receiving and Storing
- Unload deliveries and donated food items from trucks and vehicles.
- Inspect incoming products for quality and safety.
- Weigh, log, and store items following First-In, First-Out (FIFO) procedures.
- Maintain clean and organized storage areas, including coolers and freezers.
Operations
- Assist with placing orders, tracking order delivery and completing reporting requirements.
- Safely operate pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other material‑handling equipment.
- Maintain warehouse organization, cleanliness, and adequate stock levels.
- Support waste reduction efforts through proper storage and inventory rotation.
Donation Pickups and Deliveries
- Drive agency vehicles to pick up food donations.
- Deliver food orders to partners when needed.
- Follow all safety and driving guidelines.
Volunteer Support
- Assist volunteers with daily tasks such as food sorting, packing, and distribution.
- Help maintain a positive, supportive, and safe volunteer environment.
Food Safety
- Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and handling guidelines.
- Monitor cooler/freezer temperatures and report any concerns promptly.

Education and/or Experience
- Prior experience and/or a high school diploma are preferred.
Equipment and Technical Skills
- Experience using pallet jacks and other warehouse equipment.
- Basic computer proficiency for inventory and documentation.
- Basic math skills for counting, weighing, and logging items.
Interpersonal and Workplace Skills
- Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
- Dependable, self‑motivated, and attentive to detail.
- Friendly and service-oriented, with a desire to help the community.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Other
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and maintain vehicle insurance.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 40–70+ pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, bend, push, pull, and move continuously throughout the shift.
Work Environment
- Primarily warehouse environment; may involve working outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and temperature changes (coolers/freezers).
- Frequent interaction with volunteers, clients, donors, and staff.
