Director of Coding-(Exempt)

Responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, management, and performance of the medical coding department. Ensures the team adheres to federal and state regulations, industry best practices, and internal policies for coding accuracy and compliance. Collaborate with leadership, providers, and cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvements in coding processes, enhance the overall revenue cycle, and minimize compliance risks.

Required Skills:
1. Thorough knowledge and understanding of coding; good managerial skills; effective oral
and written communication skills; judgement, tact, and diplomacy; strong interpersonal
abilities; critical thinking skills.
2. Must have one of the following Certifications: CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), Certified
Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Evaluation and Management Coder (CEMC)
3. Knowledge of ICD-10 and HCPCS/CPT coding systems
Minimum Work Experience:
1. Minimum of ten (10) years acute care hospital inpatient and/or outpatient coding experience
required.
2. Minimum of two (2) years management/supervisory experience required.
3. Minimum of three (3) years auditing/monitoring experience strongly preferred.
Minimum Education:
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business, Organizational
Development or equivalent preferred. The incumbent Director in the position on or before
April 15, 2017 is grandfathered in terms of education and therefore deemed to have met the
requirement.
