Maintenance Worker

SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, the Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled maintenance tasks including carpentry, basic plumbing, basic electrical, and basic HVAC repair; performs a variety of semi-skilled preventive maintenance duties such a cleaning coils, changing filters, and greasing motors, etc.; performs interiors and exterior painting duties as required; and performs other related duties as assigned. The Maintenance Worker performs under general supervision and determines own methods for performing assigned work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Performs work in a variety of skilled maintenance tasks including carpentry, painting, plumbing, and masonry.
- Performs a variety of carpentry tasks in the construction and maintenance of buildings and other facilities.
- Performs a variety of plumbing duties such as removing, replacing, or repairing plumbing fixtures, water lines, etc.
- Performs work of an unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled nature when necessary, such a painting, masonry, etc.
- Maintains and renovates all ETSU Health clinics.
- Estimates and orders materials to complete jobs.
- Uses specialized hand and machine tools.
- Reads and interprets work orders and blueprints to determine dimensions of structures.
- Drives pick-up or automobile.
- Responds to clinic maintenance emergencies.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: Knowledge of methods, materials, and procedures used in general repair and maintenance work. Knowledge of machines, tools, and equipment used in a variety of tasks as required. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Ability to use, clean, repair and maintain equipment, tools, and machinery required in accomplishing tasks. Ability to follow directions, evaluate situations, and make decisions. Ability to exercise good judgement in the use of materials. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees. Ability to plan and organize work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Part-time and/or professional experience in building/facilities maintenance. HVAC/HVACR repair; mechanical maintenance, and/or other closely relevant experience (such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and masonry). Able to work various shifts including weekends and after business hours. A valid Driver's License
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: In lieu of experience, those with relevant degrees, certifications, and/or apprenticeship experience may be considered.
